Salary calculator
Convert any pay amount between hourly, weekly, biweekly, monthly and yearly using your own hours, weeks and overtime. It estimates 2026 federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and the income and payroll taxes of the state you choose, and shows what the salary is worth in another state once prices are counted.
Start from a figure you know, or from the median pay of any of our 150 careers.
Career ROI calculator
Put up to four careers side by side: median pay, the typical years of training, the cost of that training, how long the pay premium takes to repay it and what the career earns over 20 years after the cost.
Years and costs come from each career's how-to-become guide and can be edited for a specific program.
What the tools assume
Both tools use the same official figures as the rest of the site: median pay from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS OEWS, May 2025), prices from the Bureau of Economic Analysis regional price parities, and 2026 federal and state tax rules. Tax results are estimates for a simple case (no other income, the standard deduction, no pre-tax deductions) and are not tax advice. ROI figures are before tax and ignore financial aid, interest and paid apprenticeship wages, so they compare careers rather than predict one person's earnings.
The calculator keeps everything in your browser: nothing you type is sent to us or stored. The career figures it can start from are the same BLS medians shown on each career page, so a result you get from a career's median matches that page.
